Picture yourself on a beach at dawn. The sky still has pink hues, the wind carries the scent of salt, and the first waves begin to break gently. Two friends—captains, surfers, divers—prepare to enter the water after checking their equipment, as they have done so many times over the years.
They both grew up by the sea. They respect it, study it, and sail it. And over time, they learned something that pained them to see every day: plastic bottles floating by, caps, wrappers… small signs of a consumption that has gotten out of hand.
One day, on that same shore, while changing after surfing, they realized something else: how fragile the tools we use every day really are. The cell phone that slipped from their grasp in the sand. The water bottle that would be thrown away after a single use.
That's where the spark ignited.
Not an office idea. Not a "pretty" concept to sell.
But a real need: to create products that reduce plastic, protect our tools, and respect the ocean that has given us so much.
A vision born from the sea
That day a mission was born: to design functional, minimalist objects, resistant to the elements, that integrate smart technology and materials prepared for salt, sun, wind — and time.
Products that were not just a passing fad, but lifelong companions.
That they not add more waste to the world, but rather replace harmful habits.
That would make it easier to move, create, and train.
That's how MAGUA began.
Not as a brand, but as a commitment.
The culture of “more for less” and its shadow
As we designed, we began to observe the reality of the world we wanted to protect. We saw it in our travels, in our training, in our daily lives: rampant consumerism . Clothes bought for a single use, cheap equipment that lasts for weeks, products discarded with alarming speed.
It pained us to see how, every year, tons of textiles end up in useless landfills. It troubled us to know that many of those garments are poorly made, mass-produced by unscrupulous brands with the sole aim of making a quick sale.
We know we're not the only ones who feel this way. According to the most recent data:
-
It is estimated that the textile industry generates more than 90 million tons of waste each year ; many of these garments are only used a few times before being thrown away.
-
Fast-fashion garments have a tremendous water footprint: some t-shirts require more than 2,000 liters of water just for their production .
Black Friday: a symbol of excess
For us, Black Friday is a metaphor. It's the ultimate celebration of "more": more shopping, more products, more waste. A day when many people feel compelled to buy without thinking, simply because there's a sale.
Some see it as an opportunity; we see it as a test. A test to decide what kind of brand we want to be. Do we want to be part of the destructive cycle, or do we want to create something that breaks that cycle?
We decided to break it.
That's why we say NO
Saying NO to Black Friday for MAGUA means many things:
-
It means choosing quality over quantity. We manufacture less, but with more care. Every piece we release is made to last, to accompany you throughout your life.
-
It means being responsible. We're not going to sacrifice the planet to offer huge discounts at the expense of personal profit.
-
It means respecting your decision. We don't want you to buy impulsively, but rather with a purpose.
-
It means building a real community. People who value what they have, who strive to generate less waste, who want to leave a positive impact.
An invitation to change
We invite you—our community, anyone who wants to reflect—to join us in something different:
-
Think before you click. Ask yourself if what you're about to buy truly adds something to your life.
-
Choose brands that think beyond the first use: that design with intention, that produce with awareness.
-
Don't get caught up in the marketing hype. The best opportunities aren't always the cheapest: sometimes, the most valuable thing is something that stays with you for years.
-
If you buy with intention, you reduce waste; if you buy less, you generate less waste; if you value what you have, you change part of the system.
Our commitment to you
At MAGUA, this NO to Black Friday is not just another campaign: it's a deep commitment.
-
We are committed to launching limited collections and producing on demand whenever possible.
-
We are committed to using durable and sustainable materials, to designing to last.
-
We are committed to being transparent with you: where our components come from, how we produce, how we take care of the environment.
-
We are also committed to educating, not just selling: we want to share data, stories, and reflections.
When you buy MAGUA, you're not just choosing a piece of technology. You're choosing a philosophy. You're choosing a future with less waste and more purpose. You're choosing to be part of a community that believes there's another way to create and consume.
A future together
We can't promise that everything will be perfect, but we can promise that we're going to try: create less, produce better, think more. And we want you to be part of that attempt.
This year, instead of accumulating, we invite you to reflect .
Instead of buying without thinking, we encourage you to choose with intention .
Instead of letting Black Friday sweep us away, we decided to stop, breathe, and redefine what a sale means.
Thank you for reading this. Thank you for sharing our vision. Thank you for wanting something different.
We are MAGUA. Consume less. Think more. Products with purpose, designed to last.
